You know- we love a glow! I’m giving you easy tips to get the best faux tan possible with, you guessed it, no sun damage☀️
To best prepare for your upcoming spray tan, let’s go over some quick tips on how to make that tan look glorious!
Why Spray Tan?
Spray tans have great benefits but the first is it is WAY healthier for your skin than laying out in the sun. Sun exposure will damage the skin by wearing down the bindings like collagen and elastin that make it flexible, cause premature aging and pigmentation, dehydrate the skin and expose you to the high risk of skin cancer. Just go faux!
A few days before:
Stop shaving. This is going to help with the exfoliating process the day before you go in for your spray tan and give you a gooood shave- like butter ?
**Bonus tip- you can also paint or provide some type of barrier on your nails/cuticles to prevent them from discoloring.
The day Before:
Shave and exfoliate day. Take a long hot bath (make it a real moment) and throw in some Epson salts or essential oils. A bath it is important to let your skin soak for the exfoliating. A hot shower will only strip your skin of vital oils and lipids and as the hot water runs quickly over the skin, it does not truly soften it. Ever got out from a reallyy hot shower and felt itchy? Yep, your skin is too dry and needs some love!
Exfoliate with an exfoliating glove. Find my favorite reusable gloves here! Avoid any kind of sugar, nut or salt scrub. Many of them have heavy oils that will leave a barrier between your skin and your tan. We want all that tan absorbed! **Pro tip: throw them in with your towels for an easy clean and grab 2 pairs to rotate when the other in the wash.
After you bath - you can moisturize but use a light lotion the night before. If you put on too much or too heavy of a lotion it can create a barrier that would prevent your skin from absorbing the tan.
The day of:
Wear dark clothing to your appointment to prevent any staining of product. Keep it loose and airy so you don’t stick or sweat.
Around 5-10 minutes before going in - use a lotion on your hands, cuticles and wrist -ankles, wrist, knees and elbows to get an even looking tan. The places where your body creases shouldn’t always absorb 100% of the tanning product as it can look darker and creased when it has set.
You can also ask for 1-2 shades lighter on the face and have it blended down your neck to prevent you from looking aged. A face too dark accentuates fine lines and hallows. A softer tan can make you look refreshed and youthful ?
After:
Your tan should sit for 8 hours before you shower. This includes workouts, saunas, etc- stay dry babe! Every salon/artist is different so ask them for their directions here! If there is bronzer in your tan it will go onto your sheets so feel free to throw on an old blanket or wash your sheets after
Wake up the next morning and follow the post-routine given to you by your spray tan artist. I love a good, thick lotion to keep the skin super hydrated and keep your tan great for as long as possible.
Enjoy your glow! Let me know, do you spray tan, self tan or none of the above? I'd love to know your thoughts and routine below ?
Much love ❤️ -A
