Winter Skincare Routine

Winter Skincare Routine

The air outside is dryer and cooler. There isn’t as much sun or humidity. This already affects what we wear on a day to day basis - this means we also need to adjust our skincare routine.

Here are some tips for you to get ready for that cooler and dryer weather.

After a long day out in that winter and snow, absolutely NOTHING sounds better than a really hot shower. My pro tip # 1; be careful HOW HOT that water is. The hot water can strip your skin, especially on the face. We are already lacking the humidity from the heat and the skin is really dry - so the heat can really strip down the barrier of your skin and cause damage.

Our summer skincare focuses on lightweight products and hydrating the skin. As we transition to winter, there has to be a focus on heavier products and moisturizing the skin. It is important we change the skincare routine to adjust for the new winter weather because we want to make sure when we transition for summer, we don’t have a few month's worth of damage on our skin and starting that season off that way.

Pro-tip # 2 to know the difference between moisturizing and hydrating. Watch Beauty S’Cool on my IGTV to learn the difference as I have covered this before. But just a quick way to know the difference product-wise; hydrating is gel and water-based, where moisturizing tends is a cream base.

BARRIER QUEEN HAS ARRIVED TO TELL YOU TO CONTINUE PROTECTING YOUR SKIN BARRIER. Let me tell you about Nourish and Drench, the BFF duo that helps the barrier of our skin! You don't have any transition for this one. These are good year-round! I preach constantly about protecting the skin barrier and I will continue to tell you to do so.

SPF IS IMPORTANT IN THE WINTER TOO! You are still exposing your skin to the sun in the winter. Even though we may not see the sun as often as we do in the summer we are exposed to it with a glare off the snow. If it is reflecting off the snow, it is reflecting onto your skin. Sunscreen is the absolute best and easiest way to protect your skin.
